Native American slaves were branded on the forehead with the Spanish owners initials. Each time they were sold, they received another brand. This meant that some people had three and four brands. This of course, resulted in their faces being entirely scared. Even more disturbing is the story of a ship full of slaves, who had entered a port in Nicaragua expecting the worse. When in fact, to their surprise, the governor freed them, and told them to go home. They were let go as soon as they were re-branded “libre” or free.
