Ancient Mayans liked to paint their bodies red, blue, and black. They were short, the men averaged 5 feet tall. They liked their hair long. Some men may have had their hair short on the sides, but they usually left a long strand down the back. Braids were as common then as they are now. Men wore loin cloths and women wore wraparound skirts. Tattoos and piercings were popular with both men and women. Skull shaping was very popular. Archaeologists report that 90% of all Mayans had their heads artificially shaped. Heads were shaped to look like an ear of corn by using two boards that were tied to the head of the baby. It only took a few days to flatten a baby's head for a lifetime.
