The largest of all Ancient Mayan cities was called Kaminaljuyu. It contained an estimated 100 pyramids at its peak. These ruins were located in Guatemala City and today are largely covered by freeway. Kaminaljuyu shares many of the same architectural characteristics as those of Teotihuacan. Many historians believe that Kaminaljuyu was conquered by the "Mexicans" from Teotihuacan some time around 400 AD.
