The ancient people who lived during the Basketmaker periods were very short. The men were 5 feet 5 inches or less. These people were capable of traveling long distances over very tough terrain. They were very muscular and they spent most of their lives working very hard. These people made sandals, feather blankets, rabbit robes, sleeping mats, pipes, jewelry, flutes, and whistles. Their ancestors were often buried with elaborate gifts, especially if they were of high social status.
