Hildalgo is home to half of Mexico's Otomi speaking people. Most grow crops of corn, beans, chilies, coffee, or sugar cane. Craft production is also important to the Otomis. They are world famous for their intricate beadwork and embroidery. Many women still wear traditional clothing. However, the white "manta" shirt and pants that has traditionally been worn by the men had vanished. The women's traditional attire is very close to that of the Mayans.
